The Pauline Fischer Scholarship
This memorial scholarship is a celebration of the life of Pauline, who was and still
remains an inspiration and role model not only to her children and grandchildren, but almost anyone whose life she touched. She was woman who loved people, valued good parenting, and understood the importance of education.
Pauline raised her five children single-handedly in a small town in Illinois during the 1940s through the 1960s. She struggled to keep food on the table but chose not to go on public assistance as long as she could work. Her home was a happy home where her children were encouraged to do the right thing and embrace the right values. Most friends and neighbors were unaware of the extent of Pauline’s challenges as she never complained about her own circumstances, choosing instead to help others in need.
After working all day as a nurse, she came home to take care of her neighbors during their times of illness. In addition to nursing, she earned extra money for her family by taking in other’s laundry and ironing. At that time, people even ironed their sheets!
Pauline was generosity. She always had a smile, a kind word, and a home cooked meal for anyone who stopped by her home. She had the gift of finding the lovable qualities in anyone, no matter how deeply these good qualities were buried. Her love was unconditional and never-ending. She was a woman of grace and beauty.
You may be a woman just like Pauline. We would be honored if you would apply for Pauline’s scholarship. Supporting more Pauline-like women to become successful and inspiring role models is Pauline’s legacy.
